The Lord Reigns (Psalm 96:10)

Tell it out among the nations, 'The Lord is King.'

In a world shaken by war, injustice, economic uncertainty, and moral confusion, it can often seem as though evil holds the throne. Nations rage, leaders fail, and many hearts are filled with fear. Yet the Psalmist calls us to proclaim a greater reality: “The Lord is King.”

God has never abandoned His throne. The kingdoms of this world rise and fall, but His reign endures forever. The One who established the earth and made it firm continues to rule with wisdom and justice. Though His purposes may at times be hidden from our sight, His sovereignty remains unshaken.

And the King whom we worship is not a ruler distant from the suffering of His people. In Jesus Christ, God Himself came and dwelt among us. He is the King who suffered with His people and for His people. He knows sorrow, rejection, injustice, and death. His throne was first revealed in the Cross before it was revealed in glory through the Resurrection. Christ is the crucified and risen King, who conquered sin, death, and the powers of evil not through worldly might, but through His self-giving love and sacrifice.

Therefore, when the world is in turmoil, we trust not only that God is sovereign, but also that He understands our suffering. Our King has walked through the valley of affliction and emerged victorious. He lives, He reigns, and He remains with His people to the end of the age.

Let us therefore ascribe glory to the King of heaven and earth, offering Him our worship, our obedience, and our hope. For the Lord reigns, Christ is risen, and His Kingdom shall have no end.

Prayer

O Lord, our glorious and crucified King, when the nations tremble and our hearts are troubled, strengthen us in faith. Remind us that You are not only the sovereign Ruler over all things, but also the Savior who suffered for us and now lives forever. Teach us to trust in Your reign, proclaim Your Kingdom among the nations, and live in the hope of Your final victory; through Jesus Christ, King of kings and Lord of lords. Amen.
