Explanation of the Verse

Romans 12:1-2 calls Christians to a life of complete dedication to God. “I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship” speaks to a holistic offering—not just actions, but our entire being, motivated by God’s mercy.

The phrase “spiritual worship” (λατρεία, latreia in Greek, a root of “liturgy”) points to the nature of our service to God. It’s not merely individual piety but a corporate act of devotion.

The Anglican tradition deeply reflects this call. The Book of Common Prayer, with its structured liturgy, provides a framework for corporate worship, shaping our lives to reflect this “living sacrifice.”

Almighty God, we thank you for your boundless mercy. Help us to offer ourselves as living sacrifices, holy and acceptable to you. Through the beauty and structure of your liturgy, renew our minds and strengthen our resolve to resist worldly conformity. Guide us to discern your will and live lives that glorify your name. Through Christ our Lord, Amen.

Pengorbanan Hidup dan Ibadah Liturgis
